6.1.1 System Requirements

InqScribe runs on virtually any recent Mac or Windows system. We strongly recommend installing QuickTime. QuickTime is free and easy to install: download it here.

InqScribe is compatible with each of the following operating systems:

	Windows 2000, NT, XP, or Vista DirectX 8+ required QuickTime 7.0 strongly recommended, but not required.
	Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later QuickTime required InqScribe is a Universal Binary.

InqScribe also requires the following:

• 32 megabytes hard disk space
• 64 megabytes system RAM
• 1024 x 768 screen resolution*

*InqScribe will run on a 800 x 600 screen, but you may have some trouble viewing everything.

Unicode subtitle support requires QuickTime 6.5. Pitch Lock requires QuickTime 7.

6.1.2 Digital Media Support

InqScribe supports a wide range of digital audio and video formats, including the following common formats:

• QuickTime Movies
• H.263 and H.264
• MPEG, MPEG-2¹, and MPEG-4
• AIFF, WAV, AAC, and MP3 audio
• Many AVI formats.
• Windows Media formats.

Because InqScribe relies on QuickTime to handle media display, the program supports many more formats than shown here. You can view a complete list of QuickTime-supported formats on Apple's QuickTime site.

On Windows, InqScribe uses Windows Media Player for native playback of Windows Media formats. Mac OS users who need support for Windows Media formats should consider the Flip4Mac WMV Codec for QuickTime.

InqScribe can access media files from your local hard drive, optical disk drive, networked file server, and the Internet.

¹ MPEG2 playback requires the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback component.

6.1.3 Import and Export Support

InqScribe can import and export data in the following formats:

• Plain text
• Tab-delimited text
• XML
• HTML (export only)
• Final Cut Pro XML (export only)
• Spruce STL (export only)
• Subrip (export only)

Tab-delimited and XML formats are suitable for importing into database and other data analysis applications. InqScribe can parse your transcripts and automatically generate a series of data records, using embedded timecodes as record markers.

6.1.4 Unicode Support

InqScribe is Unicode savvy. All the data you create within InqScribe is stored (and exported) in UTF-8 format. Multiple languages can even be used within a single file!
